Regents Exam Prep in Flushing, Queens
Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Living Environment, Chemistry and Physics, taught a chapter ahead of school by NYS-certified teachers.
Regents scores sit on the transcript that colleges read, and they decide whether a student earns a Regents or Advanced Regents diploma. ABCMath's high-school classes are organised around them: each weekend class covers the school course a chapter ahead, and the weeks before the exam are spent on released Regents papers under timed conditions. Jump to a subject: Algebra 1 · Geometry · Algebra 2 · Living Environment (Biology) · Chemistry · Physics.
Who Regents prep is for
- Students in grades 9 to 12 taking a Regents course this year who want a high score, not just a passing one. See 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
- Students retaking an exam in January or August after a low score.
- Accelerated 8th graders taking Algebra 1 or Living Environment early.
Regents exams are given in January, June and August each year; most students sit the June exam at the end of the course. (Source: NYSED testing schedule.)
Algebra 1 Regents
Linear equations and inequalities, systems, functions and their graphs, exponential growth, quadratics and factoring, and statistics. Algebra 1 is the first Regents most students take and the one the SHSAT and SAT build on, so we teach it for understanding rather than for the formula sheet. Students learn to show work the way the rubric awards credit, which is where many lose points on the constructed-response questions.
Geometry Regents
Congruence and similarity, transformations, proofs, right-triangle trigonometry, circles, coordinate geometry and solids. The proofs and constructed-response questions are what separate a 70 from a 90; we practise writing them until the reasoning is clear and complete.
Algebra 2 Regents
Polynomials and rational expressions, radicals and complex numbers, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions, sequences and series, probability and statistics. This is the most demanding of the math Regents and the one that most directly predicts SAT math and precalculus readiness. See also SAT prep.
Living Environment (Biology) Regents
Cells and biochemistry, genetics and evolution, human body systems, ecology, and the required laboratory work. Living Environment is as much a reading test as a science test, and our class spends time on interpreting data tables, graphs and experimental design questions.
Chemistry Regents
Atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, moles and stoichiometry, solutions, kinetics and equilibrium, acids and bases, redox and nuclear chemistry. Students learn to use the reference tables fluently, which turns many questions into lookups, and to set up quantitative problems cleanly.
Physics Regents
Kinematics, forces and Newton's laws, energy and momentum, electricity and circuits, waves and optics, and modern physics. Physics problems are algebra problems in disguise; we teach the setup, units and diagrams that make them routine.
How the classes run
- Weekend classes in person at 43-55 Kissena Blvd and 140-22 Beech Ave in Flushing, one class per subject.

Why ABCMath
- NYS-certified teachers who teach these courses, with TAs for individual questions.
- 30 years in Flushing and more than 5,000 students; our students have gone from Stuyvesant, Bronx Science and Townsend Harris to Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and MIT.
- Regents, AP and SAT under one roof, so a student's math and science build on each other from 9th grade to the application.
Frequently asked questions
When are the Regents exams given?
Three times a year: January, June and August. June is the main administration, when most students take the exam at the end of the course; January and August are used for retakes and for students on a different schedule. The exact dates are published by NYSED each year.
When should my child start Regents prep?
At the start of the course, not the month before the exam. Our classes run a chapter ahead of school through the year, so by spring the student is reviewing rather than learning, and the final weeks are spent on past Regents exams under timed conditions.
My child failed or scored low on a Regents. Can you help with the retake?
Yes. We start with the student’s score report to see which topics lost the points, rebuild those, and then work through released exams. Retakes are offered in January and August.
Do you cover the new Regents exams?
Yes. New York is rolling out new science exams aligned to the current state standards. Our teachers are NYS-certified teachers who teach these courses in school and keep the class aligned to the current version of each exam.
Is the class in person or online?
Both. Weekend classes meet in Flushing at Kissena Blvd and Beech Ave, with a live online option, and weekday online tutoring for extra practice.
