Weekday Online Tutoring and Homework Help in Queens
A live hour of math and an hour of English every week, for grades 3–12, from the Flushing school families have trusted since 1996.
Most of the points a student loses are lost on a Tuesday night: a homework set done wrong and handed in, a quiz the next morning, a test with no one to check the practice. Our weekend classes teach the material; weekday online tutoring is the part of the program that keeps the school grade up between them.
Who it is for
- Grades 3 to 8 students whose homework takes too long, or who understand the class and still lose points on tests.
- High-school students in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus and English who need a second explanation the same week the school teaches it.
- SHSAT and SAT students, for whom the weekday hours are where the weak areas from the last practice test get fixed. Weekday tutoring is included in our SHSAT courses.
- Families anywhere in Queens or NYC: the sessions are online, so there is no travel on a school night.
What the sessions cover
Math
- Elementary and middle-school math: fractions, decimals, ratios, pre-algebra, geometry, word problems
- High-school math: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and the Regents exams for each. See Regents prep.
- SHSAT and SAT math practice between weekend sessions
English
- Reading comprehension and vocabulary
- Writing: paragraphs, essays, school assignments, with corrections explained
- Grammar and conventions, for school English and for the SHSAT and SAT reading and writing sections
How it works
- One hour of math and one hour of English each week, live, with an instructor.
- The student brings the week's work: homework, a returned quiz, an upcoming test. The session is built around it.
- The instructor explains, the student does. The goal is a student who can finish the next set alone, not an instructor who finishes this one.
- Weak areas are tracked, so a 7th grader who keeps missing ratio problems gets ratio practice until they stop.
- For students in our weekend classes, the weekday instructor follows what the class covered, so Saturday and Tuesday reinforce each other.
How it fits with the weekend program
Our weekend classes in Flushing teach a year ahead of school; weekday tutoring handles what school is teaching this week. A student in weekend math who adds weekday tutoring gets both: the foundation that makes next year easier, and the homework help that makes this year's grade better. Students in the SHSAT crash course already have the weekday hours built in, and use them for targeted drills through test day.

Frequently asked questions
What happens in a weekday session?
A live instructor works with the student online for an hour of math and an hour of English each week. The time goes to that week’s school homework, the topics the weekend class flagged, and practice for upcoming tests. The student does the work; the instructor explains, checks and corrects.
Is this one-on-one?
Sessions are small and live, with a real instructor who sees the student’s work and answers questions as they come up. For students enrolled in our weekend classes, the weekday instructor also knows what the class is covering.
Can my child join without taking a weekend class?
Weekday tutoring is included in our SHSAT courses and is offered alongside our other programs. Call 718-888-7866 to ask about the options for your child’s grade.
What grades do you tutor?
Grades 3 to 12: elementary math and reading through Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus and SAT reading and writing.
What do we need at home?
A computer or tablet with a camera and a quiet place to work. The student should have the week’s homework and any test or quiz they got back, so the instructor can see where points were lost.
